The E/506th Parachute Infantry Regiment Eulogy*

"At this moment, we are gathered here together to pay our respects to the men of E Company who were killed in action during World War II. The epitaph sent by the U.S. Army in all cases was a brief statement. Few notices elaborated to any extent at all. "We regret to inform you" type thing. However, we know of some officers who spent long hours into the sunset, writing the obituaries to parents and wives explaining in great detail. And many enlisted men who wrote extensive letters as well.

The inscription on the tombstone reads simply the name, rank, date of death, hometown & 506th PIR 101st AB Div. That is for those who were found and buried. The number of man killed in E Company in WWII comes to a total of 49. So we say farewell to those loved ones, but they shall never be forgotten or left out of our prayers."
